Exam-hall rules, last sample

This is the boss. No calculator — today the hardness factors round to 2.52.5 and 44, the k values arrive clean, and every number is chosen to fit in your head. One raw-water sample, start to finish, and every answer feeds the next: the meter's TDS, the titration's hardness, yesterday's jar test, and finally tomorrow's chlorine dose. Write each line down as you go — one early slip flows all the way to the pump.

Everything from the chapter rides in this one sample, and this bench is the site's home turf — treat it with the respect of a full water report. 5★ under par here is the chapter crown. Clock in.

CaMgTH

TH=2.497 Ca+4.118 Mg\mathrm{TH} = 2.497\,\mathrm{Ca} + 4.118\,\mathrm{Mg}

  • TH\mathrm{TH}= Total hardness as CaCO₃
  • Ca\mathrm{Ca}= Calcium as Ca²⁺
  • Mg\mathrm{Mg}= Magnesium as Mg²⁺

each variable a concentration

ECkTDS

TDS=k×EC\mathrm{TDS} = k \times \mathrm{EC}

  • TDS\mathrm{TDS}= Total dissolved solids (concentration)
  • kk= TDS/EC factor
  • EC\mathrm{EC}= Electrical conductivity (electrical conductivity)

DCdemandCres

D=Cdemand+CresD = C_{\text{demand}} + C_{\text{res}}

  • DD= Chlorine dose applied
  • CdemandC_{\text{demand}}= Chlorine demand
  • CresC_{\text{res}}= Chlorine residual
