cord
cord
Volumeexact by definition
A cord is exactly 128 cubic feet, 3.624556363776 cubic metres, the volume of a neatly stacked pile 4 ft high, 4 ft wide and 8 ft long. It is the legal unit of firewood in the United States and Canada and the standard unit for pulpwood.
Watch out: The 128 ft³ includes the air between the logs. Actual wood volume in a well-stacked cord is typically 80 to 90 ft³ depending on how straight and uniform the pieces are. Watch too for the "face cord" or "rick", a stack 4 ft by 8 ft but only as deep as the logs are long, which is often a third of a cord and is not a legal measure in many states.
