μg
microgram
Massexact by definition
The microgram is one millionth of a gram, or 10⁻⁹ kilograms. It is an SI prefix applied to the gram, so the factor is exact by definition. It is the working unit of drug dosing, trace contaminant analysis and air quality reporting, where particulate matter is quoted in micrograms per cubic metre.
Watch out: Pharmacy and nursing practice writes "mcg" rather than "μg", because a handwritten μ has been misread as an m often enough to cause thousand-fold overdoses. If you see mcg on a label it means microgram.
