joule per cubic millimeter
One joule per cubic millimetre, equal to 1 GJ/m³. It is the unit of volumetric energy density in laser powder-bed fusion, where the ratio of laser power to the product of scan speed, hatch spacing and layer thickness characterises a build recipe.
Watch out: Volumetric energy density is a convenient summary, not a complete description. Two builds at the same J/mm³ can differ in porosity and microstructure if the power and speed differ, because the melt pool physics depends on them separately.
