°/s
degree per second
Angular speedexact by definition
The degree per second is \(\pi/180\) radians per second, an exact definition with an irrational decimal value of about 0.017453 rad/s. It is used where the rotation is naturally read on a protractor or a servo scale: gimbals, pan-tilt heads, radar sweeps and instrument rate displays.
Watch out: Convert to rad/s before entering an angular speed into any dynamics formula. Kinetic energy \(\ frac{1}{2}I\omega^2\) and the relation \(v = \omega r\) are radian expressions and give nonsense if fed degrees.
