The dyne per centimetre is the CGS unit of surface tension and is exactly equal to the millinewton per metre, since a dyne is exactly 10⁻⁵ N and a centimetre is exactly 0.01 m. The equality is exact and convenient, because the enormous existing literature in dyn/cm can be read as mN/m without any arithmetic.
