The joule per kelvin is the SI unit of heat capacity: the energy needed to raise the temperature of a whole object by one kelvin, with its mass already included. It is the coherent SI combination, so the factor of 1 is exact. Multiply a specific heat in J/(kg·K) by a mass in kilograms to get it.
Watch out: Heat capacity is a property of an object; specific heat capacity is a property of a material. A litre of water has a heat capacity of about 4186 J/K, while water has a specific heat of 4186 J/(kg·K). The units differ by a kilogram.
