meq/g
milliequivalent per gram
The milliequivalent per gram is 1 eq/kg of exchange sites, entered here as 1 mol/kg of equivalents. It is the dry-weight capacity of an ion exchange resin: a strong acid cation resin is about 4.5 to 5.0 meq/g dry, and the same resin is sold on a wet volumetric basis as roughly 2.0 eq/L.
Watch out: Resin datasheets quote both a dry-weight capacity in meq/g and a wet volumetric capacity in eq/L, and they are not interchangeable without the moisture content and the bed density. The volumetric number is the one that sizes a softener.
