$/MMBTU

per million BTU

Cost per energyexact by definition

Cost per million BTU is the wholesale energy pricing convention, the unit in which natural gas futures, industrial fuel contracts and cross-fuel comparisons are quoted. One million international table BTU is exactly 1,055,055,852.62 joules, so the conversion is exact by definition. One MMBTU equals exactly 10 therms and about 293.07 kilowatt-hours.

Watch out: The M in MMBTU is the Roman numeral for a thousand used twice, so MMBTU means a million BTU while MBTU in the same convention means a thousand. Elsewhere MBTU is written meaning a million, following the SI mega prefix, so the abbreviation is genuinely ambiguous and worth confirming. There are also several BTU definitions differing by up to about 0.2 percent; this site uses the international table BTU of exactly 1055.05585262 joules.
