Cost per massexact by definition
Cost per tonne is the bulk commodity price, used for aggregates, ores, grain, fertiliser, industrial chemicals and shipping. The tonne is exactly 1000 kilograms, so a dollar per tonne is exactly a tenth of a cent per kilogram. The conversion is exact by definition.
Watch out: This is the metric tonne of 1000 kg. A price quoted per short ton (2000 lb, 907.18474 kg) or per long ton (2240 lb, 1016.0469088 kg) refers to a different amount of material, and North American commodity quotes frequently mean the short ton even when written simply as ton.
