The US short ton-force per cubic yard is exactly 11,636.1084... N/m³, or 2000 lbf/yd³. Earthwork haul calculations, fill weights and bearing checks on temporary works use it, since spoil is measured in cubic yards and weighed in tons.
Watch out: Bank, loose and compacted volumes of the same soil differ by 20 to 30 percent, so a tonf/yd³ figure has to state which one it applies to. Swell and shrinkage factors, not the unit conversion, are where earthwork estimates actually go wrong.
