Convert degree Rankine to degree Celsius

degree Rankine and degree Celsius convert with an offset as well as a scale, so there is no single multiplier — enter a value below.

1 °R = -273 °C
1 °R in every temperature unit
kelvin0.556 K
degree Celsius-273 °C
degree Fahrenheit-459 °F

How the conversion works

This is an affine conversion: the scales have different zero points, so a value is shifted as well as scaled. That is why a temperature and a temperature difference convert differently. 10 °C is 50 °F — but a rise of 10 C° is a rise of 18 F°, because the offset cancels when you subtract two temperatures. Engineering notation marks the difference by moving the degree sign after the scale letter, and this site keeps them as separate quantities: see the temperature difference converter for intervals.
