g/m2\text{g/m}^{2}

gram per square meter

Mass per areaexact by definition

The gram per square metre is 10⁻³ kg/m², exact by prefix, and equals exactly 10 kg/ha. It is the unit of small-plot and greenhouse work, of biomass sampling from a quadrat, and of paper and fabric weights outside agriculture entirely.

Why it is written g/m2\text{g/m}^{2}: Written g/m² in agronomy and GSM in the paper and textile trades, where the same unit describes sheet weight. They are the identical quantity.
