tonne per hectare
Mass per areaexact by definition
The tonne per hectare is 1000 kg spread over 10,000 m², so exactly 0.1 kg/m². It is the standard unit for reporting crop yield everywhere the metric system is used, and for lime and manure rates, which are far too large to write in kilograms.
Watch out: A tonne per hectare is roughly 0.446 short tons per acre, so the two numbers differ by more than a factor of two. Yield figures quoted without units are worse than useless when a wheat crop can be honestly described as either 8 t/ha or 3.6 ton/ac.
