μV

microvolt

Voltageexact by definition

The microvolt is one millionth of a volt. It is the working scale of biopotential measurement and of low-level signal chains: an EEG electrode sees tens of microvolts, and a type-K thermocouple moves about 41 microvolts per degree Celsius. The factor of 1e-6 is exact, being an SI prefix.

Watch out: At microvolt levels the measurement is usually dominated by thermal EMFs at connector junctions and by amplifier offset drift, so a reading is only meaningful alongside a stated reference junction or a zeroing procedure.
