lb-mol
pound-mole
Amount of substanceexact by definition
The pound-mole is exactly 453.59237 mol, the amount of substance whose mass in pounds equals the molecular weight. One lb-mol of methane is 16.04 pounds. US process engineering, gas processing and combustion calculations are carried in lb-mol throughout.
Watch out: Also written lbmol or mole in older US texts, where "mole" without qualification sometimes means pound-mole and sometimes gram-mole. A factor of 453.6 hides in that ambiguity. If a stream is quoted in "moles per hour" and the pressures are in psia, suspect pound-moles.
