kmol
kilomole
Amount of substanceexact by definition
The kilomole is a thousand moles, the standard amount unit in chemical engineering and process design, where flows are measured in tonnes per hour rather than grams. It pairs naturally with kg/kmol for molar mass, which is numerically the same as g/mol. The factor of 1000 is exact, being a decimal prefix.
Watch out: Do not confuse the kilomole with the pound-mole used in US process engineering, which is 453.59237 mol, roughly 0.454 kmol. Both appear in the same handbooks.
