gibibyte
Informationexact by definition
One gibibyte: 1,073,741,824 bytes, exactly — 2 to the thirtieth, and 7.4% larger than a gigabyte. RAM is genuinely sold in these, whatever the box says, because memory really is addressed in powers of two.
Watch out: Memory and storage differ here in a way worth knowing. A stick sold as 16 GB of RAM really does hold 16 gibibytes, because the hardware is binary all the way down. A drive sold as 16 GB holds 16 billion bytes. The same three letters, two different quantities, decided by which component you are buying.
