One million bits, exactly. It is the unit domestic and business internet connections are sold in — a "100 Mbit" line moves 100 million bits per second, which is about 12.5 megabytes.

Watch out: Internet plans are advertised in megabits and download managers report megabytes, so the number you were sold looks eight times bigger than the number you see. Both are honest; they are different units.
