One megavolt per metre, equal to 1,000,000 V/m exactly and identical in size to one kilovolt per millimetre. It is the unit of accelerator gradients, laser-induced fields and high-power pulsed work.
Watch out: Dry air breaks down at roughly 3 MV/m at sea level, so any sustained field quoted above a few MV/m implies a vacuum, a compressed gas, oil or a solid dielectric — never open air.
