μS/m

microsiemens per meter

Electrical conductivityexact by definition

The microsiemens per metre is one millionth of a siemens per metre, or 0.01 microsiemens per centimetre. It covers resistive ground and fresh rock in geophysics, and insulating fluids such as transformer oil and clean fuel. The factor of 1e-6 is exact, being an SI prefix.

Watch out: Fuel and solvent conductivity is often quoted in picosiemens per metre in the static hazard literature, where jet fuel is required to sit above about 50 pS/m so that charge generated by pumping can relax rather than accumulate. That is a thousand times smaller again than the microsiemens per metre.
