US gallon per day

Volumetric flow rate

The US gallon per day is the customary unit for water demand, well yield, septic system sizing and small treatment plant capacity in North America. It equals about 4.3813e-8 cubic metres per second; the ratio is exact as a fraction, since the US gallon and the day are both exactly defined, but the decimal shown here repeats and so is rounded. Residential water use is often planned at 50 to 100 gpd per person.

Watch out: As with gallons per minute, the US gallon and the imperial gallon differ by about 20 percent. Older Canadian and British figures for gallons per day may be imperial.
