The gigapascal is exactly 10⁹ pascals, or 1000 MPa. The relation is exact. It is the unit of elastic moduli and of high-pressure physics: steel has a Young's modulus near 200 GPa, aluminium near 70 GPa, and the pressure at the centre of the Earth is around 360 GPa.
