pF
picofarad
Capacitanceexact by definition
The picofarad is one trillionth of a farad. It is the natural unit of stray and parasitic capacitance, of RF tuning and of small ceramic capacitors: a typical scope probe presents 10 to 15 pF and a metre of coaxial cable around 100 pF. The factor of 1e-12 is exact, being an SI prefix.
Watch out: Older schematics and parts lists sometimes write picofarads as micro-microfarads, abbreviated µµF or mmfd. They mean the same thing.
