Mass flow rate

The pound per hour is the customary North American mass flow unit, most visible in steam boiler ratings and process engineering. It equals exactly 1.2599788055555...e-4 kilograms per second, since the international avoirdupois pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms and the hour exactly 3600 seconds. The ratio is exact as a fraction, though its decimal form repeats and is rounded here.

Watch out: Boiler capacities are quoted several ways that do not convert into one another without more information: pounds of steam per hour, boiler horsepower (34.5 lb/h of steam from and at 212 degrees Fahrenheit), and BTU per hour input or output. Pounds per hour of steam also depends on the feedwater temperature and steam pressure for its energy content.
