klb/h
thousand pounds per hour
Mass flow rateexact by definition
A thousand pounds per hour is exactly 0.1259978805555... kilograms per second, close to 0.126. It is the universal steam flow unit in North American plants: boilers, headers, turbines and traps are all sized in klb/h, sometimes written kpph or Mlb/h.
Watch out: Steam flow in klb/h converts to a heat rate only through the enthalpy of the steam, which depends on pressure and on whether it is saturated or superheated. There is no fixed BTU per pound of steam, and using 1000 BTU/lb as though there were is an approximation that runs several percent out at high pressure.
