m/s
meter per second
Speedexact by definition
The metre per second is the SI coherent derived unit of speed. It is the unit in which the speed of light is defined as exactly 299,792,458 m/s, and therefore the unit that now defines the metre itself. Its relation to the base units is exact by definition.
Watch out: Wind speeds in meteorology are often reported in m/s in scientific data and in km/h or knots in public forecasts. The factor between m/s and km/h is 3.6, and mistaking one for the other is a fourfold error in dynamic pressure, which scales as speed squared.
