The centimetre is one hundredth of a metre, an exact decimal prefix on the SI base unit. It is the everyday human-scale metric length, used for body measurements, clothing and rainfall. The factor is exact by definition.
Watch out: Engineering drawing standards generally avoid the centimetre, preferring millimetres and metres so that no drawing mixes two units differing by a factor of ten. A dimension read as "12" is unambiguous in millimetres and dangerous where centimetres are also in play.
