hh
hand
Lengthexact by definition
A hand is exactly four inches, 0.1016 metres. It is the standard unit of horse height, measured from the ground to the withers, and it remains the legal unit for that purpose in Britain, Ireland, the United States, Canada and Australia.
Watch out: Horse heights are written in a peculiar notation: 15.2 hh means fifteen hands and two inches, not fifteen and a fifth hands. Since a hand has only four inches, the digit after the point never exceeds 3, and reading it as a decimal fraction gets the answer wrong by up to two inches.
