Mt TNT
megaton of TNT
Energyexact by definition
The megaton of TNT is exactly 4.184 petajoules by convention. Strategic nuclear yields are quoted in megatons, the largest weapon ever tested being the 50 Mt Tsar Bomba, and asteroid impact energies are usually given the same way: the 2013 Chelyabinsk airburst was about 0.5 Mt.
Watch out: Written Mt, it collides with the megatonne of mass used in emissions accounting. One is 4.184 PJ, the other is 10⁹ kg, and only context separates them.
